Transportation Routes and Services                                                                  Policy 3541.1

The board of education directs the chief school administrator to supervise development of bus routes to provide safe, economical and reasonably expeditious transportation for:

• pupils who live remote (two or more miles) from the school as defined in New Jersey law;

• educationally handicapped pupils in accordance with their IEP;

• pupils participating in board-approved extracurricular activities or field trips

• pupils whose route to the school is deemed hazardous by the board

• other pupils as required by law.

The criteria to be used in designing routes and assigning pupils to them shall include:

• the distance to be traveled to and from school;

• the age and state of health of the child;

• the requirements of the instructional program

• the hazards involved on the route to be traveled.

For Kindergarten through Grade 3, pupils who live remote from Parkview School will be transported.

For Grades 4-8, pupils who live less than remote from Samuel S. Yellin School and would cross over Route 30 (White Horse Pike) will be transported.

All pupils participating in after school activities that begin immediately after school dismissal and end at 4:00 p.m. who are transported to and from school according to the above criteria for Grades K-8 shall be transported home via the district mini-bus.

Transportation to and from school shall be provide as required by law to eligible nonpublic school pupils and to pupils attending charter schools.

Buses, whether contracted or district-owned, shall be kept in optimum condition and shall conform to all state safety regulations.

Bus routes must be acted upon by the board and submitted to the county office.
