Medical Procedures for School

Sponsored Field Trips                                                                                                                 Policy #5135.1

v      Licensed registered nurse will go on trips when medically necessary.

 

o        nurse will take copy of individual student’s medical orders - daily and P.R.N.

o        nurse will transport all medications

o        if parent is pre-approved to accompany his/her child on the trip, parent may administer medication to his/her child.

 

v      Nurse will take a first aid kit with a copy of health office standing orders signed by school physician.

 

v      Communications on field trip: walkie-talkies/cell phones for use by nurse and appropriate staff.

 

v      Mobility compromised student:

 

o        administration will decide who will accompany student

 

v      Medically compromised students:

 

o        will be under the direct supervision of the school nurse

o        students will also be assigned teacher/room parent supervision

 

v      Emergency procedures:

 

o        for all potentially life threatening situations - call 911 and parent

o        students with the following diagnosis will be treated as per standing order from respective physician:

 

                                                Diabetes

                                                Bee sting

                                                Peanut allergy

                                                Seizure disorder

                                                Asthma
