Computer Classroom

Pat Hibbert
We will continue to collect used printer cartridges (any size), as well as cell phones, and laptops (with cords). Students and parents can deposit these in the box provided in the lobby of the school. The funds are used for technology throughout the year. Thank you for all of your support in the past and keep those cartridges, cell phones and laptops coming! We are working towards the purchase of a new LCD projector.
Attention All Working Parents, Family Members and Friends
Our vendor who collects our used cartridges will now pick up your used cartridges at your workplace, saving you from dropping them off at school and increasing our profit for this fund raiser. The vendor will provide the carton for depositing the used cartridges. Please contact me at 856-783-1086 Ext. 201 or email me at phibbert@laurelspringschool.org if you think your workplace would be interested. We welcome all support!
Technology Classes
We started off the year dusting off the equipment and putting it back together after the summer construction. Ten new laptops were added to our technology for use by the students and teachers. We are looking forward to a fun year using our distance learning equipment. Oh the places we can ago!
Back in the computer lab, the first grade was introduced to Kid Pix by learning the drawing, paint, and writing tools. We read a story online and the students are creating their own scene from the story and adding a sentence to describe it. They have also traveled to the Internet and played math games to help reinforce adding, subtracting, and recognizing odd/even numbers. Second grade have been learning the tricks to making an I Spy page and discovering how to camouflage an object. They are working on creating their own Second Grade I Spy book. Second grade is also researching animal habitats using the Enchanted Learning site on the Internet. They are discovering amazing traits about their animals. Third Grade is working on their keyboarding skills. They are learning home row keys and proper placement of their fingers on the keyboard. Everyone is progressing nicely. Remember to practice at home to build up this skill. Fourth grade is learning how to make MS Word work for them. They have been practicing how to cut, copy, and paste as well as changing the font to various sizes, colors, and styles. Fifth grade learned the parts of the computer. They created webs in MS Word and viewed a video from Intel to help show how each computer part works together. In honor of Veterans Day, they did a scavenger hunt on the Internet to find facts about Veterans Day to better understand the meaning of the day. Sixth grade went online to the Intel website and learned the jobs and the history of the computer. They also got ready for Veterans Day by creating an invitation on Print Shop for their Veterans Day luncheon. Sixth grade is beginning the Life program by creating a business letter and setting up their check registers on the computer.
The technology classes are off to a great start and we look forward to an engaging and fun year!
