Lateness Procedures and Consequences

Recently, we have had a rash of students coming in late for school.  For some students, it has become a pattern.  The reasons (excuses!) are usually oversleeping or they couldn’t find their homework, etc.  By school policy, students are expected to be on time for school.  Occasionally, events occur that make lateness unavoidable.  It is their responsibility to be on time.  From our handbook:

In the event that lateness is unavoidable, these are the following consequences:

1-3 late      Reminder that it is child’s responsibility to be on time

4-9 late      10-min. recess detention in main office; notice sent home

10-15 late  15-min. afterschool detention in main office; phone call

                             to parent

15-20 late  Parent conference and lunchtime suspension for student

20+            Student and parent must appear before the Board of

                             Education

In January, letters will be sent home if students are repeatedly late.  Please remind your student of the above consequences.  A responsible student is a successful student.
