2^nd Grade News

I cannot believe we are already a month into the new school year! Time sure does fly in second grade!  I am so happy to be working with your children this year. They are a wonderful group of students who really love to learn. I can already see the progress they are making in the short time we have been together.

The students have really shown a great interest in our Daily Five Program! They love to be able to make their own choices for the centers they are working in and they love choosing their own reading material! I love to see how eager they are to read on their own or to a friend!

We are beginning to work on our addition and subtraction facts in math.  The students have begun to take “Mad Minute” quizzes every week. Their goal is to beat their score from the following week.  Practicing math facts with flashcards at home will greatly benefit your child.

Our science and social studies programs are in full swing. The children love all of the hands on science experiment and art activities we have been doing! The class will be using leaves for a few activities this fall. Collect some with your child and send them to school in October!
