September 1, 2009

Dear Students, Parents, and Residents of Laurel Springs:

It is a true pleasure to welcome all students, parents, family members, and residents to the 2009-2010 school year in the Laurel Springs School District.  It is an honor to serve as school superintendent in such a wonderful community.  There is no doubt that our students will have the opportunity to have many wonderful experiences in the year ahead.

As the school year opens this September there are many things about our school that are worthy of celebration.  The first thing is that our two-year construction project is finally completed.  It is truly wonderful to now have a school that has been modernized to meet the needs of students in the 21st century.

The second area of recognition is 2009 NJ ASK test scores that our students achieved in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades.  It is a pleasure to inform that community that our students did extremely well on the tests.  This is a direct result of the hard work of our teachers and students to focus on academic achievement.  During the fall of 2009 the scores of our school and surrounding districts will be made public in the Courier Post.

The third item that is worthy of celebration is the final result of the state monitoring of our district that took place in 2008-2009.  The state review process is called the New Jersey Single Accountability Continuum, (NJ QSAC) and it takes place every three years.  In August the district was notified that it had passed all five sections of the QSAC review, and is now officially labeled a “High Performing School District.”

It is truly wonderful to be able to inform residents about the success that we are all enjoying in the Laurel Springs School District.  The progress that we are experiencing is the direct result of the outstanding support the community has given our district for many years.  Please know that it would not be possible to have such a great school were it not for the selfless commitment of our residents.

Thank you for your continued support of the Laurel Springs School District.  I earnestly look forward to hearing from parents about any aspect of district operations.  Residents are always encouraged to address their questions or concerns to my office via telephone or email at any time.

Please accept my best wishes for a successful school year for all of our students and parents.

Sincerely,

Dr. Albert K. Brown, Superintendent
